September Membership Meeting

Thursday, September 21, 2023

East Islip Library

6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Hello Members,

LIDS is happy to bring back our regularly scheduled monthly meetings at the East Islip Library again! Please join us for Dahlia 101 as Tom Gangone and other members discuss all things Dahlia. With the cooler temperatures you will notice your Dahlia flowers will intensify in color as they are a fall flower and love the coolness. Sometimes mildew can get on the leaves. Bring your questions and bloom if you want, as we all learn our successes and failures from each other.

Lenny Nicolosi (Show Chair) would like to say "I could not do it without you!" We had a Fantastic Dahlia & Photo Competition! Thank you to all members who came down to help out, from cleaning and setting up, making the show program, delivering the food, selling the raffles, cards, and flowers outside and inside, staying extra hours, driving the golf cart, and breaking down the whole show, THANK YOU! The Dahlia flowers were beautiful and the general public all had smiles on their faces. To all the members who volunteered and did whatever they could to make this happen. It's greatly appreciated.

To all the novice Dahlia growers and first-timers showing your bloom(s)...keep up the great work and continue to show when you can.  As you gain experience you will win more ribbons & cash too!

Congratulations to Chris & Andy on your Tri-Ribbon and Julie on your 2 Tri-Ribbon wins at the show! (Julie also won 2 more Tri-Ribbons at the MIDS Dahlia show last weekend.) Congrats to all the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners too.
