About The Long Island Dahlia Society
- LIDS is an all volunteer organization.
- Dahlias bloom from June to frost, getting richer in colors as the fall approaches.
- There are over 1000 dahlia plants in the garden, with hundreds of different dahlia varieties.
- See all a variety of dahlia forms from tiny blooms to "dinner plate” dahlias over fifteen inches in diameter.
- LIDS hosts two “Dahlia Shows” each year (Sept/Oct), east coast growers compete for the top prizes in dahlias.
- A “Dahlia Photo Competition” is held with the second show, open to beginners, advanced, and professional photographers.
- These shows are free to the public with admittance to the Arboretum.
- Meetings are open to the public and are held the third Thursday of each month, check the calendar for details.
